Allianz Australia wins in 2026 Canstar Innovation Awards

16 April 2026

Allianz Australia is proud to announce it has been awarded a 2026 Canstar Innovation Excellence Award. The win in the award’s insurance category is for Allianz’s agentic AI-powered solution that automates food spoilage claims.

Food spoilage claims are a type of insurance claim filed when food products are damaged, spoiled, or rendered unfit for consumption. These types of claims increase in volume during and following an extreme weather event.

In response, Allianz developed the initiative to streamline the claims process following an extreme weather event. Launched by Allianz globally in July 2025 and piloted in Australia, the innovative solution has the potential to reduce the average claim processing and settlement times by around 80%, meaning high volume food spoilage claims can be settled within hours versus days.

Luke Whenman, Allianz Chief Claims Officer, said, “To be a winner of Canstar’s Innovation Excellence Awards is an honour for the Allianz team. When a natural disaster strikes, our claims team faces a spike in claim volumes which can cause delays for customers and put pressure on our team.

“Our AI-driven automation of food spoilage claims can rapidly speed up routine processing, allowing payouts to reach customers in a matter of hours so they can secure essential supplies and support their families. We’re dedicated to continuing to explore how new technologies can help to care for our customers when they need it most.”

The Canstar Innovation Excellence Awards are analysed by its expert Research Committee using a sophisticated and unique rating methodology. All submissions were measured and calculated on the uniqueness, impact, and value for customers.

This is the third Canstar Innovation Award win for Allianz, having previously won a Canstar Innovation Excellence Award in 2024 for its Home Insurance Indicative Quote, and in 2020 for its Travel Insurance Claims Automation.

Josh Sale, Canstar Group Manager - Research, Ratings and Product Data, said: “We’re delighted to announce Allianz Australia a winner in the 2026 Canstar Innovation Excellence Awards for the team’s automation of food spoilage claims. By leveraging smart technology, Allianz is transforming the way high-volume, low-complexity claims are handled. This innovation highlights how technology and human expertise can work together to deliver faster, more accessible support for customers when they need it most.”

Allianz Australia delivers a wide range of personal, commercial, and corporate insurance products and services to more than 4 million policyholders.
